Graduation News

QQI – Level 6 Metal Fabrication

Darragh O’Donnell

On behalf of everyone at MMG Ocean, we would like to extend our congratulations to our colleague Darragh O’Donnell on his recent graduation.

This programme consisted of on-site competence testing as well as three separate phases of modular assessments and examinations undertaken at ETB Athlone and Munster Technological University. In addition to his apprenticeship, Darragh successfully completed a CAD programme at North West Regional College Derry, gaining further knowledge and practical skills to create and understand complex 3-dimensional drawings. Most recently, he completed coded welding certification, enabling him to work to DNV standards.
Throughout his apprenticeship, Darragh gained experience working on innovative gangway products, various marine projects, and regularly travelled throughout Ireland for MMG, providing welding services for Top Oil and Causeway Geotech. He was part of our team that manufactured inlet water manifolds and travelled to Estonia to complete the onsite installation.

Darragh is a dynamic, highly skilled, and experienced welder/fabricator with an impressive track record in the marine engineering and construction sectors. We are very proud to be part of his journey and are confident he will continue to succeed in his career. He will have access to further training and development in various areas within the blue economy, as well as opportunities to gain new experiences at our partner Ocean Kinetics base in Scotland.

Darragh is a natural multi-tasker, confident in his role, able to make decisions on the go, and remains calm under pressure – skills he also brings to the race track, making him one of the best rally navigators around!
