Located in the largest fishing port in Ireland and carrying a passion for all things marine-related, Martin McGuiness established MMG Welding in 2005.

Working closely with the fishing community, Martin has always listened to the industry’s needs and found engineering solutions that improved operations.

One such initiative was the establishment of a 24-hour support service, born from recognising the importance of timely repairs to allow fishing boats to get back to their ground as quickly as possible.

Over the years, MMG’s reputation for quality and service has developed and grown, and the company has evolved and expanded, winning significant contracts across a range of marine-related industry sectors.

In 2018, the company moved in a new direction when it proudly patented Martin’s latest brainchild: Gangway Systems. Having worked on vessels most of his life, Martin saw the need for gangways to be modernised and a safer more efficient solution was born. After years of research and relentless perseverance, Martin’s vision came to life. Designing and manufacturing customised, flexible, automated, yet compact gangway solutions to increase safety on vessels and improve the overall operational efficiencies.

The vessel-to-vessel model, the first of its kind in the market, was awarded the coveted Innovation award at Seawork’s Commercial Marine Exhibition UK in 2019. These patented systems are now in use all over the world, available in various models both manual and hydraulic, and still evolving to meet the ever-changing demands of the marine industry. In Martin’s own words, “Innovation has no end”.

In 2023 MMG Welding became MMG Ocean as it partnered with Ocean Kinetics.
